Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions. We've got answers...

What the heck is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an event where people get together in teams to collaborate on projects that solve a specific problems. These projects are judged and winning teams receive prizes for their work.

How does it work/What do I have to do?

Everyone that registers will be assigned to a team of 4-6 people. Before GRAM JAM begins, your team will meet to discuss ideas for your project. Once GRAM JAM kicks off, your team will work together to design, build, and present your project to the company & judges.

Do I have to know how to code?

No way! We'll be building teams with various levels of code experience. If you've never seen code before, that's no problem! Maybe this will be your first chance to try it out.

Regardless, there are plenty of opportunities to participate that don't require writing code. Some examples of non-code related tasks include: designing the user interface, preparing the presentation, testing the project, and giving the final presentation. (There's always a good bit of non-coding related work to be done.)

How much time will it take?

This will vary a bit based on the project your team is working on and your role in making it happen, but plan on spending most of your work day during the event hanging/working with your team to make the magic happen. This means you should cancel your standing meetings where possible.

Why are we doing this?

Because there are prizes. 😁 On a serious note, we have a few goals for GRAM JAM:

  • Expose our entire team to our API's. Giving you a "oh, that's what we do" experience.
  • Provide feedback to our Product team about the experience & documenation for first-time users of the API
  • Gather fun ideas for future demos, blog posts, etc. that we can show developers.
  • Have fun! 😎
